“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness? — John Steinbeck
It’s been a short summer. They always seem to go quickly in hindsight but the memories, they’ll stay with you forever. I haven’t posted in some time, life has been crazy in the best ways. I wasn’t able to get out fishing as much as I wanted but I made the most of my time when I could. As they say, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead”.
So, here we are, fall 2016. My wife and I have a our first little one on the way. We couldn’t be more excited and happy. When I’m not caring for my wife or working, I’m out fishing the near by pond(so I’m a 5 minute drive from home from the mrs) or we go out when we’re blessed with a day off together and a good day. It’s fun, we make the most of it. It’s not trout fishing, or salmon or steelhead fishing. It’s good ol bass/bluegill fishing. I know some people don’t consider it true fly fishing but we have a great time catching fish and I feel as though it’s more than just being out there catching a prize fish. Being out there with my wife, the joy on her face when she catches a fish, that’s better than any salmon or trout I’ll ever catch. Life isn’t about destination, it’s about the journey. Get out there and have fun. It doesn’t have to be epic, it can be a park or your front yard, a local stream. Just get out and enjoy yourself, find your zen. Stay happy y’all. You only live once.
So awhile back we received a care package from postflybox.com. A pretty neat company with a great product and a great idea. We had a chance to talk to Brian Runnals, Founder & President about why and how he started this company and this is what he had to say.
“I started Postfly in my basement apartment in late 2013. My wife had signed me up for a fishing box-of-the-month club and I really enjoyed it thought ‘hey this could work for fly fishing’. Built a crappy site on shopify and started promoting through FB… and sent 8 boxes to our first customers in December 2013. Shortly after launching I convinced my bro-in-law to join Postfly to handle our design and web dev, and he did a complete overhaul of our website which is what you see today. We’ve worked hard to be not just a service but really to build a brand that our customers connect with. Fast forward to 2015… I left my career in technology sales to run Postfly full time, got an office space in Boston, and now send thousands of boxes each month. ”
Brian your flies are artfully handcrafted and your service is impeccable. Keep up the good work and we plan on coming back for more.
