Tying flies

Tying up some flies for when I go pickerel fishing on Thursday. Olive and black/blue marabou with some peacock flash and rabbit zonker strips on a size 1 hook. I used non lead wire to help sink it a little bit too.  Pickerel seem to love the darker colors with a little flash in them, they eat em up all day.  I find myself tying flies specifically designed to go after pickerel. These kind work well for bass too but I find them most popular among pickerel. Back to the vice! Hope yalls day is going well!

Shaking the rust off

“The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day”-Robert Frost

Between moving out of the Pine Barrens area and getting a promotion at work, life has been crazy lately. My wife and I decided to go fishing for my birthday this past weekend down the shore area. We found lake in the Tuckahoe area, not too far from Ocean City, NJ. We took our dog too out there, he usually joins us on our adventures.
It was a beautiful 78 out but the wind was blowing strong across the lake. Between being near the coast and it already being windy out, we had a steady wind at our faces all afternoon. We didn’t have much luck out there, we were in the peak time of when fish were least active. It was nice just getting out though, this winter seemed like eternity. As I write this it is 42° outside. I haven’t been able to get out on a day that’s either not windy or not downpouring rain. Hopefully next time I’m off, the fishing gods will give me a beautiful sunny day. If so, I’ll be sure to let yall know.

Qalo Ring

This past year I had a chance to test out a pretty great product. The Qalo ring. As a fly fisherman and all around outdoorsman, my wedding band got in the way a lot. Either getting snagged and almost tearing my finger off or falling off when my fingers got wet and cold from the water. I needed something lightweight and durable. I tried Ceramic and a couple other rings of different materials. But when I came across the Qalo ring my search for the perfect ring ended. The rings are made from 100% medical grade silicone. They are lightweight, super comfortable and really hold up to whatever you throw at them. They also come in a lot of great colors. When I got mine they only had two colors for men. Black and grey. They now have an updated array of colors. And they make them for women as well. I truly love this ring. To top all of that Qalo supports The Alliance for Lupus Research which is the world’s largest private funder of lupus research, committing over $81M to date. Their goal is to find more effective treatments and ultimately prevent and cure systemic lupus by supporting bio-medical research. At QALO they strive to give back. 20% of the sales from their “Love Collection” will be donated to The Alliance For Lupus Research.

Each ring you purchase helps to overcome this terrible disease.

New Reel

Just picked up a new fly reel from LLBean the other day. All spooled up and ready to go. Can’t wait to get on the water next week. Now that the weather is breaking my days off will now be filled with catching fish and relaxing in the sun.
